In this paper, models for organic and perovskite solar cells are developed, based on realistic assumptions exploiting the material characteristics. Analytical expressions are provided for the collected photocurrent as a function of the incident radiation intensity and the bias voltage. In addition, the dark current is related to the physical and technological parameters as well as the bias voltage of the solar cells. Estimated performance parameters of the solar cells based on these models show satisfactory agreement with the measured values published in the literature. Anomalies in the behaviour of some of such cells are accounted for, and a model is proposed for it. The models developed here will help in optimizing the performance of such advanced solar cells and in enhancing their photo conversion efficiency.
