Reduction in greenhouse gas emissions has become a strong demand in container terminals after the Kyoto Protocol was implemented. The purpose of this paper is to clarify energy saving due to installation of roof shade installation at reefer container storage area. Performance measurement in Hakata Island City Container Terminal, Fukuoka, Japan has clarified the effect of roof shade enables to reduce electric consumption. In predicting such circumstances, numerical analysis using computational fluid dynamics will provide an estimation of energy saving of the roof shade in the various condition. Design methodology is created and simulated for effective installation of roof shade and its practical applications are carried out to the container terminal, HIICT and port of Tanjung Priok in Jakarta, Indonesia. Through these methodology, the design of effective installation roof shade for reefer container storage area in accordance with the arrangement of the container port could be obtained.
