For the first time, a fully analytical design of two-dimensional maximally flat notch FIR filters is presented. The proposed design is based on a maximally flat generating polynomial corresponding to a band pass FIR filter. A closed form evaluation of the two-dimensional impulse response is based on the differential equation of the generating polynomial. A useful degree equation of the filter is also presented. Two examples illustrate the efficiency of the design. Robustness of the design is demonstrated.
