With the rapid development of power infrastructure, cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) power cable plays an increasingly important role in urban distribution networks. Therefore, it is of great significance to test and diagnose the performance of XLPE cable insulation to ensure the reliability of cable operation. The field test of a cable line which has been running for 8 years using the technology of oscillating partial discharge combined with 0.1 Hz ultra-low frequency dielectric loss is introduced in this paper. The results show the abnormal partial discharge of the middle joint at 95m away from the outlet of the substation. Moreover, standard deviation and dielectric loss change rate under U0 voltage are all over the normal range, and the cable has water tree aging. The research results can provide direction for the physical and chemical analysis of cable and further analysis of aging degree.
