Visible light communication (VLC) is a promising technology to address the bandwidth demand by augmenting the capacity provided by RF based Wireless networks. In this paper, we present an innovative inter-disciplinary communication system using Optical Camera Communication (OCC), that explains a practical implementation of a secure bidirectional communication system, using screen based transmission and camera based reception with a standard computer and built in low-resolution webcam. It's a reliable, full duplex communication system, with error detection and correction mechanisms. We have achieved a data rate up to 60 kbps for file transfer [text/image/video/mixed content] as a sample application. To achieve higher throughput, we have used Base128 encoding and QR code based transceiver. We developed an interactive chat application, with file transfer feature. We present the result of our evaluation by varying the display brightness and distance between the transmitter and the receiver.
