Design of Digital Codebook for Precoding in OSTBC-MIMO systems

Designs of digital codebook for precoding mainly include Love-Heath codebook, Lloyd codebook and Grassmannian codebook and so on. But the bit error rate (BER) performance of Lloyd codebook is affected by error threshold. To enhance BER, spectrum efficiency and solve the problem of Lloyd codebook, we proposed a design of codebook by MacQueen algorithm for MIMO systems. We don't need to set the error threshold by replacing Lloyd algorithm with MacQueen algorithm. And the centroid is updated after each channel matrix H classification, which provides a more accurate classification basis for the classification of the next channel matrix. Simulation results show that the proposed codebook design has better BER performance and spectrum efficiency than Love-Heath codebook and Lloyd codebook in OSTBC-MIMO systems.
