Preliminary data has shown that TOC and NDMA removal were dependent on temperature and possibly other factors such as ozone dose and presence of pre-oxidants like chlorine in the process. Since nitrification is most sensitive to these factors, it might prove to be an indicator of stress in the system and can be used a monitoring tool. Further studies are being carried out at lower temperatures and varying ozone doses to better determine the impact of temperature, ozone dose and chlorine on TOC and TrOC removal.
