Insulator modification is the key technology to replacing bare conductors with insulated ones. And in some special areas, such as crossing forests, it is necessary to wrap the insulating material for bare conductors to ensure the safe and stable operation of the transmission line. Therefore, how to evaluate the influence of the insulating material on the original conductor sag is an urgent problem to be solved. Based on the conductor catenary equation, this paper evaluates the variation of conductor sag after insulation modification by analyzing the stress on the conductor, focusing on the influence of the material and thickness of the insulation on the conductor sag; and then the influence of the weight of the automatic coating device on the conductor during the insulation modification process is analyzed and discussed.
