Previous work has found that REEs are primarily weakly associated with the organics and are easily leached with mild solvents from pre-combustion coal. The leaching process is very similar to current methods utilized for Chinese ion-exchange clays. Furthermore, the leaching process is a coal beneficiation process for producing a higher quality coal feedstock. Currently, our work is focused on the bench-scale extraction and concentration testing of our leaching process. Results which will be presented include the initial findings from our bench scale parametric testing.
