Topological analysis of premixed and stratified V-flames

This work investigates the local topology of premixed and stratified V-flames using a tensor analysis technique. The invariants of the velocity gradient tensor are analyzed and the topological structure of the flow conditioned on isosurfaces through the flame fronts is revealed. Neither the premixed and stratified configurations show the topologies characteristic of non-reacting turbulent flows. Stratification also changes the underlying topology through the flame, with vortex tubes becoming more prevalent and persisting deeper into the flame front. In addition to cataloging the flow topology of a premixed and stratified V-flames, this work demonstrates the feasbility of large-eddy simulations to analyze the flow topologies.
