This paper provides an in-depth analysis of the use of quasi-Halbach arrays in the trans-rotary magnetic gear, which converts high-force low-speed linear motion to low-torque highspeed rotational motion. It is shown that Halbach magnetization provides a significant force advantage in this magnetic gear over radial magnetization. Several design aspects of the proposed configuration are explored using finite element analysis, including optimization of dimensions and demagnetization. Experimental data obtained from a prototype using quasi-Halbach magnetization verifies the concept and theoretical results.
