Are We Excellent Yet? Perceptions of Software 'Test Centre of Excellence' Within a Financial Institution

Test centres are organizational entities established to carry out software testing in a standardized, cost-effective manner. In this paper we present selected findings from an interpretive study at a large bank. From the perspective of study participants, we analyse the test centre implementation accomplished within this institution. We show that the participants positively perceived test process standardization and predictability, process measurements, and the professional commitment of the test centre's members. On the other hand, increased administrative requirements, limited flexibility, and the lack of consistency in test tooling were named among the negatives.
