As the mobile devices are used widely, it is possible to research human mobility and behaviors by using the increasing mobile phone data. Traditional data acquisition methods, such as surveys, used in transportation studies have become burdensome and inefficient in comparison to the emerging sources of passively collected data. These newer data sources have the ability to improve data quality and accuracy and the potential to complement conventional data. Yangon-Pathein Highway is the only available supply for the travelling between Ayeyarvvady region and Yangon city. It has a huge impact on the Yangon traffic congestion, especially in Hlaing Tharyar Township. The aim of this study is to understand the travel behavior of domestic travelers in Yangon. Domestic trips in Yangon are extracted after the city-to-city trips are determined from Mobile phone call detail record in Myanmar, which is supported by the MPT mobile operator. And then the origin-destination matrices of travelers and mobility pattern of visitors in Yangon are estimated. This study shows how Call Detail Record (CDR) can be used to understand the travel behavior for an efficient and successful destination management. This study will be helpful to support the smarter transportation planning and the urban resource planning.
