A cost-effective method for preparing the mixture of thermal solvent extraction product from biomass and PAN based carbon fiber with high specific surface area was newly de veloped. The extraction products had many excellent properties, such as high carbon content, low ash content, high aromatic content and good thermoplastic. The extracts obtained by sawdust were the more proper extraction product mixed with PAN as the precursor of carbon fiber. Adding PAN to the extraction product was to improve the spinnability of the precursor. After stabilization and carbonization, the specific surface area and specific volume of the fibers obviously increased. The diameter of carbon fiber prepared by the mixture of the proper extract and PAN was about 169nm~200nm. The specific surface area and specific volume of carbon fiber prepared by the mixture of the proper extract and PAN respectively reached to 714.24m~2/g and 164.10cm~3/g higher than that of carbon fiber prepared by PAN.
