Successful synthesis of Hep-Cs NPs was achieved via simple polyelectrolyte complex formation. The results also demonstrate that PHMB is an appropriate candidate for delivery from heparin-chitosan nanoparticles as it prevents the growth of E. coli (common wound bacteria), which could benefit wound healing process. We are proceeding to now applying our nanoparticles to singular and combined populations of gram positive and negative bacteria to test the potential efficacy of these particles in vitro.
