From this study, we have concluded that laminin and fibronectin play a substantial role in cell-matrix interactions in comparison to collagen-I alone or hyaluronic acid/collagen-I without the additions of laminin and fibronectin. This conclusion confirms our hypothesis that the additions of laminin and fibronectin can support cell-matrix interactions via cell adhesion/signaling, the formation of tissue-like constructs, and provides a degree of control over cellular phenotype and behavior. These results point towards the importance of further study of the role laminin and fibronectin each play in tissue and tumor microenvironments, which may result in changes of disease states or chemotherapy efficacy in tumor-stroma models.
