The bactericidal action ot NO-releasing alginate materials was clearly demonstrated against P. aeruginosa biofilms. The antibiofilm efficacy was dependent on the identity of the secondary amine functional group due to its influence on the NO payload and associated NO-release kinetics. Experiments are underway to evaluate the anti-biofilm efficacy NO-releasing alginates against Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin resistant S. aureus, and Burkholderia cepacia.
