The cause of inferior mechanical properties within 3D printed parts is a result of an exponential decay in intensity that allows for the creation overhang structures. This gradient in properties along the depth can be mitigated by the implementation of a post-cure. This allows for enhanced mechanical properties leading to our ability to implant a structure with properties similar to that of the native cartilage. Future work focuses on investigating chondrogenesis within the soft gel to create a regenerative implant that enables long-term longitudinal bone growth.
