According to EU Directive 2000/55/EC, the replacement of FL/CFL lamp also requires the replacement of the start and control device of the choke coil. The phosphorus, which covers the inner surface of the lamp, converts the ultraviolet part of the spectrum of light into the visible part. For the breakdown and control of electrical discharges in the FL/CFL lamp, a start and regulation device is used which stabilizes the current in the lamp and achieves the specified flux level. The consumption of lamps with electronic starters is lower compared to electromagnetic, starter devices. Electronic equipment for starting and regulating the operation of lamps uses 32-40% less energy than those with electromagnetic starter. Electronic start devices also have one disadvantage-they operate at the frequency of 20-60 kHz, and electromagnetic devices at the frequency of 50 or 60 Hz. Therefore the usage of electromagnetic device can cause the high-frequency disturbances in power distribution grid. The manufacturers of lamps with electronic equipment add passive filters that reduce those disturbances and impacts.
