Due to the small size of an implantable device, the internal circuitry is also required to be small in size and low in power consumption. In particular, a power management circuit, which supplies power to all circuits, is requested to generate several kinds of voltage with high efficiency using minimal external devices. In this paper, the auxiliary current source (ACS) based control scheme for a single-inductor multiple-output (SIMO) converter is proposed. Each ACS is added to each output channel and uses it to respond to fast voltage changes. Gradually, the energy transfer of ACSs is transferred to the inductor to increase the total power conversion efficiency. The inductor current is controlled by the amount of energy delivered through the ACS. The proposed ACS-based SIMO converter is fabricated and verified.
