This article presents a physical implementation of a novel heartbeat classifier for cardiac ischemia detector in implantable-drug delivery systems. The algorithm focuses in differentiating ischemic heartbeats from non-ischemic ones based on methods and techniques proposed by medical experts in cardiac ischemia diagnoses. The proposed algorithm was tested with 20 electrocardiogram recordings obtained from the Long-term ST database of Physionet. The algorithm exhibits a sensitivity (Se %) of 96.43% and specificity (Sp %) of 96.88%. The digital synthesis in a 180 nm CMOS process with a dynamic power consumption of 86 nW and demanding an area of 300×325 μm attest the algorithm benefits.
