Noninvasive high-resolution light delivery is the center for many biomedical applications from imaging, sensing, therapy, to control and stimulation, yet has considered highly challenging at depths in biological tissue due to the strong scattering of light. In this paper, we present our recent research efforts of using focused ultrasound mediation, including active modulation and passive photoacoustic sensing, as the virtual internal guidestar for optical wavefront shaping to enable acoustic- and optical-diffraction limited optical focusing in scattering media. Potential applications and further improvement are also discussed.
