This paper introduces a current harmonic reduction and a mitigation technique for modern electrical propulsion ships (EPS) as islanded microgrid, with replacing all of the conventional inverters with diode-clamped multilevel inverters (DCMLI). It proposes a new control system for DCMLI capacitors' balancing control using fuzzy logic control (FLC). This paper also introduces a quick review of DCMLI and studies a constructive comparison of total harmonic distortion levels generated by different levels DCMLI in the same condition. The modulation and simulation for all of the aforementioned works is done using Simulink.
