Assessment of Utility's Investment Options for Improving Reliability of Customer Delivery Systems

This paper describes the reliability study performed recently at Hydro One to assess some of the investment options proposed for improving the reliability of the customer delivery system (CDS). The study uses the Hydro One's area reliability evaluation program (AREP) to evaluate the impact of each investment proposal on the system reliability. A benefit/cost analysis can be performed on each investment option to measure its effectiveness. A sample system from the Hydro One's transmission network is used in the study to illustrate the proposed assessment methodology.
