Temperature Control of a Heat Sink Based on Hardware in the Loop

This paper is concerned with the modeling, design, and implementation of controllers for a heat sink system using a Single Board Computer. Temperature data is collected from an electrical circuit plant and used to develop a block model using MATLAB Simspace. Then, the Simscape model is used to design a Proportional-Integral-Derivative controller in a simulation environment. Two techniques, Control Prototyping and Hardware-In-the-Loop, are used to validate the controller results. Finally, the Proportional- Integral-Derivative controller is embedded in BeagleBone Black and connected to electrical circuit plant. Experimental results show that the BeagleBone Black can implement Proportional-Integral-Derivative controllers in real-time environment with accurate results.
