摘要

This paper presents on-going R&D activities aiming at deriving an improved reliability model enabling a more accurate quantitative risk assessment and at defining decision-making criteria for the execution of end of life disposal or a possible life extension. In this sense, a process no longer based only on consumables but also on a reliability criterion is investigated. The final goal is to be able to dispose the satellite at end of life in a safer and more reliable manner even in case of failures. This will in turn allow to limit the proliferation of space debris in already crowded Low Earth Orbits and to be fully compliant to international Space Debris Mitigation standards and specific applicable regulations (e.g. French Law : LOS "Lois des Operations Spatiales").
