The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) uses three standard algorithms to achieve confidentiality in the 4th Generation (4G) cellular network. The latest one is Evolved Packet System Encryption Algorithm (EEA3), depend's on ZUC algorithm. EEA3 is a stream cipher used in the Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. This paper discusses a brief description for the EEA3 algorithm. C implementation of the algorithm based on 3GPP standard is introduced, solving the last Ciphertext word in case of padding. Also, an FPGA implementation of the EEA3 algorithm is presented using the VHDL language on a XILINX Spartan6 board. An analysis and evaluation of the implemented algorithm and the used resources are discussed.
