The large ceiling fan is often attribute to the weather which is environmentally warm and humid conditions. Usually, IM has low starting torque compared to other DC motor. But IM need to be attached with the gear mounted on the ceiling to reduce the speed. This contributes to the main problem of this application which is noise and vibration due to gear. In this research, the aim is to design a BLDC motor with of Double Stator Slotted Rotor Brushless DC Motor (DSSR-BLDC) topology to overcome the problem occurs in large ceiling fan application. Initially, DSSR-BLDC is designed using Permeance Analysis Method (PAM) to determine the motor sizing. By using PAM, the magnetic flux is calculated using magnetic circuit and mathematical modelling based on the direction of flux which flows in stator, rotor and air gaps. Secondly, the DSSR-BLDC model is analyze using Finite Element Method (FEM) to predict the back emf (BEMF), static torque and the transient torque. The result shows the DSSR-BLDC is able to produce 45 Nm of torques and fulfill the design restrictions. Finally, this research provides an overview of designing DSSR-BLDC for large ceiling fan application.
