Web-based programming has progressed over the utilization of Internet network. But for novice programmers still need an understanding of web server software that will be used. This is related to the concept of programming that will be occupied. Specifically for opensource based of PHP programmers, Apache has been the choice. But the complicated installation methods have made a programmer switches to a third party installation package. Then the novice programmer has faced again with two options, whether to use AppServ or Xampp? This study aims to provide recommendations for novice programmers choice. It’s using a comparative analysis the quality of applications between Appserv and Xampp. ISO / IEC 25010: 2011 is used to obtain the elements that will be tested by the method of Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The research is using 3 of 6 characteristics contained in the ISO / IEC 25010: 2011 which is being transformed into a distributed questionnaires for 10 respondents of IT magister lecturers. The result of Xampp is earn 0.4185 points, and it’s better than Appserv that only earn 0.3996 points. So Xampp deemed worthy to be recommended to the novice programmer as a base web application server that is reliable.
