In a college or university, data is an important resource for guiding instruction and improving student learning. A backup and recovery strategy is necessary to protect the critical data against data loss incidents. Based on Swift cloud storage, this thesis explores how to design and implement a backup and disaster recovery system for vSphere data center being deployed in College where the author works. The Swift, which is suitable for storing large unstructured data, provides a flexible, scalable and highly available distributed object storage service. By integrating Swift cloud storage with VMware vSphere, this thesis presents an efficient solution to design a backup and disaster recovery system.
