This paper presents a flexible technique for designing a wide range of SAW filters. The technique employs certain features of recently published window functions, enabling the designer to select a suitable window to obtain either minimum transition width or minimum sidelobe level, or an optimum combination of both. A comparison of three SAW filter designs is given, which reveals that there exists a trade-off between transition width, sidelobe level, and passband ripple.
