Multilevel inverters are used in many high power and medium voltage power electronic and power system applications. This paper proposes a new inverter topology with minimum number of switches. The proposed topology produces 9-level waveform during symmetric operation and 17 -level waveform during asymmetric operation. The size, switching losses and size of the proposed inverter are reduced as it requires minimum number of switching components. The simulation model is developed for symmetrical-9 level and asymmetrical-17 level inverter topology. The performance of the inverter topology is analyzed in both symmetrical and asymmetrical conditions using MATLAB/SIMULINK software.
