This paper reviews on parameter estimation techniques in decoupling control of induction motor drive. The sluggish transient performance of voltage/frequency (V/Hz) control of induction motor drive is of course overcome by traditional decoupling control, where three phase quantities are transformed into two phase quantities. The controller performance in decoupling control is nevertheless affected by temperature variation. It is well-known that temperature variation will affect the rotor and stator resistance variations in the drive, and hence mismatches the values of rotor and stator resistances in the controller. Therefore, the performance of the drive is degraded in terms of torque, flux and currents in decoupling control. Efforts are made to improve the performance of the drive by estimating and adapting the temperature dependent parameters. The paper reviews the various online stator and rotor resistance estimation methods including soft computing techniques to improve the performance of the drive.
