Enhanced system for selfish node revival based on watchdog mechanism

The ad-hoc networks such as MANET consist of nodes working in cooperation. Nodes in an ad-hoc network exhibit selfishness to save its own resources like battery power even though the selfish behaviour of the nodes will cause packet drop there by degrading the network performance and throughput. Here an enhanced system is proposed to detect selfish nodes in ad-hoc networks based on watchdog mechanism. In most of the available systems a selfish node is excluded from the network once it is detected. The proposed system uses a concept called reviving which involves bringing back the selfish nodes to normal nodes. Incentive mechanism and source credit checking are key concepts used in revival of selfish nodes. The proposed system has improved network performance as there is considerable improvement in throughput and packet delivery ratio by reducing the number of selfish nodes in the network rather than excluding them.
