Model-Free Adaptive Control (MFAC)technology is used to design VSC controllers for power supply in urban networks. The MFAC technology not only does not require the mathematical model or any other priori data of the controlled system, but can achieve superior control effects. In this way, the weak regulation or system instability caused by the model inaccuracy under great disturbance is prevented. When PI controller can't achieve a desired control effect, MFAC can improve operation conditions in which the system parameters could be varied drastically caused by the faults at AC sides. Based on the IEEE-13 node distribution network model, an AC/DC distribution network model is used to test the controller. Through the simulation of this system under both normal and abnormal operating conditions, the effectiveness of the designed MFAC controller is verified.
