A full color image typically consists of three color channels in a single pixel location. The occurrence of only one color channel in a pixel location is called raw image data. The reconstruction of a raw image into a complete image is done by the process of demosaicking. This paper depicts a novel octa-directional residual demosaicking on a filtered Bayer Color Filter Array (BCFA) mosaic image in which the demosaicking across the edges and not between the edges in the residual domain to reduce artifacts. The residual demosaicking is the state of the art development in image reconstruction. The demosaicking process reduces the false color artifacts and zipper artifacts caused between the edges of the reconstructed image. The analysis of the proposed work is examined by the eminent Kodak dataset.
