Accurate and reliable measurement of the angle of attack, angle of side slip are speed and altitude is of critical importance for autonomous and automatic flight controllers as well as for loss of control prevention and recovery systems for manned aircraft. This paper discusses the design of an air data probe based on the circulation theory. The proposed design aims to improve the accuracy and reliability of aerodynamic attitude measurement, and eliminate moving mechanical parts on typical air data probes; thereby, improving maintainability and reliability. Experimental data obtained by testing the preliminary prototype in a wind tunnel demonstrates the validity of the design, and future work is proposed to improve the results obtained with the current test prototype to create a reliable production prototype.
