Conclusions: Titanium powder was used as ductile reinforcement for enhancing the mechanical properties and the in vitro biocompatibility of PLA polymer. The porous PLA/Ti scaffolds with various Ti contents were successfully produced via FDM based 3D printing technique. For all PLA/Ti composites, the Ti particles, appearing bright on the micrographs, were well dispersed in the PLA matrix and did not show any pronounced agglomeration. Fabricated porous PLA/Ti scaffolds by 3D printing process had uniform structure and showed good cellular response. Our results show that PLA/Ti composite scaffold is a potential alternative to existing polymer-based implant materials.
