Conclusions: The relaxivity and imaging data show that these electrodeposited magnetic nanowires would be effective as MRI contrast particles, especially for shorter length, Fe-Au or CoFe-Au nanowires coated with dop-PEG and SH-PEG-COOH. The preliminary SAR data suggest that these nanowires could be useful for magnetic hyperthermia in addtion to MRI contrast. Future work inlcludes making shorter nanowires, which could be injected intravenously, to measure the relaxivity and SAR values. The nanowires could be functionalized with other molecles via the -COOH group on the SH-PEG-COOH for enhanced cell targeting in vivo. Future cell viability assays willassess the expected biocompatibility of these nanowires before eventually doing in vivo testing with these nanowires.
