摘要

Since the beginning of Portland cement manufacturing, the use of mineral additions that could reduce production costs has always been an important issue. Nowadays, considering the stringent requirements in greenhouses gases reduction, blended cements with low clinker content are mandatory and supplementary cementitious materials keep increasing their importance worldwide. The present study is focused on fly ash addition, considering the quality, durability and strengths performances of highly substituted cements. The use of microscopy techniques, as well as powder diffraction analysis and mechanical testing, plays a key role in understanding how the hydration chemistry and the physical parameters control the macroscopic properties of this type of blended cements.
