Analysis and implementation of power supply system for xenon lamp

The proposed xenon lamp drivers are composed of the capacitor charging and main pulse unit, simmer power supply unit, and series trigger unit. The capacitor bank stores the energy to generate pulses of light sintering and the series trigger ionizes the xenon in the lamp. The simmer not only sustains this ionized xenon gas but also improves the better lamp lifetime and efficiency by reducing the number of triggering. In terms of realization, firstly, the 36 kW capacitor charger is introduced by using the modified series parallel resonant converter. Secondly, the series trigger should generate the 18-22 kV output voltage which is made by the boost and flyback converters. Lastly, the 2.5 kW simmer power supply with additional blocking diode and capacitor is introduced to guarantee the system stability. In this paper, the different features of system circuit configuration such as series trigger, parallel trigger, and various blocking methods are compared to implement the optimal power supply system. Additionally, the considerations of each power supply are analyzed with theoretical equations and the operation of system is improved. The experimental results show the stable system performances as well as the characteristic of the used converters.
