摘要

The Advanced Low Velocity Airdrop System (ALVADS) program has demonstrated system capabilities to deliver payloads reaching 42,000 lbm from C-17 and C-130 aircraft at low altitudes to support Global Response Force (GRF) missions. The U.S. Army's increasing demand for superior airdrop capabilities requires technically comprehensive modeling capabilities to simulate and evaluate performance of test articles with various parachute configurations, hardware elements and dynamic deployment sequences. The survivability of critical payloads is dependent on understanding system interactions between test components and the experienced external environment that contributes simultaneous inertial, parachute, and aerodynamic forces. The Airdrop Technology Multi-Operational Simulation (ATMOS) capability is being developed to gain insight into the extraction phase of flight for heavy airdrop systems to safeguard against test malfunctions. Drop tests with payload weights ranging from 20,000 lbm up to 42,000 lbm will be evaluated to anchor simulation developments and ultimately generate preflight predictions for the next milestone, 60,000+ lbm payloads.
