An investigation of the role of crisis management in reducing the effect of unexpected natural factors on electronic power distribution network of Tehran Province

Due to its topography, water sources, active faults, exposure to dry and wet climate, political sensitive centers, population density and economic arteries, Tehran province is situated in a special position and the sensitivity toward planning, decision-making, and preparedness against natural disasters in this province is high. Electronic power in this province is the second vital factor in ensuring the comfort and safety of the community and the first need of the industry and due to the sensitivity function and its special features, strategic plans forecasting and implementation should be taken into consideration by the agenda of managers of this industry in order to withdraw it from crisis. Tehran electronic power distribution networks are exposed to the variety of adverse events because of the relatively high life expectancy of equipment, network wear and the force majeure such as hurricanes, flood, earthquakes and unexpected occurrences such as fire. Due to the unpredictable nature of the most natural disasters and the necessity for taking quick and accurate decisions and operating in a timely manner, the exercise of crisis management science in the industry is mandatory. In order to reduce the impact of disasters and also reduce the vulnerability of industries and equipment, this field includes activities that are done before, during and after the crisis. This article attempts to clarify the status of Tehran electronic power distribution companies and other areas of Tehran. Meanwhile it introduces unexpected natural factors that can challenge networks. Besides, it deals with the importance of crisis management in the industry and the impact of increased resiliency and management solutions to protect the national equipment and reduce the adverse effects of unexpected factors.
