In order to design a hypersonic vehicle for a wide-speed range, a novel design methodology for variable Mach number(Ma) waverider is proposed. The design process for the variable Ma waverider will be introduced in detail in the paper. The innovation for the design methodology is that the design Ma is variable and the cone angle will also change along with variable Ma. In order to validate the advantage of waverider generated from this design methodology on the wide-speed range, the SST k- turbulence model has been employed to numerically simulate the flow field properties of waverider for different flow conditions. The results show that the waverider for variable Ma owns the better whole performance on the wide-speed range. When the flying Ma changes, the vehicle always has the characteristic of waverider, and its whole performance is stable and good on the wide-speed range. That will be more valuable for the integration design of hypersonic vehicle. At the same time, aiming to the different design requirement, the different wide-speed waverider can be obtained by changing the upper edge. So, the design methodology is more useful for the design of hypersonic vehicle.
