The tapping process for internal threads is usually the last step in the production of mechanical parts. In order to realize high-efficiency tapping for internal threads with small diameters, choosing appropriate tapping tools and determining suitable cutting conditions are critical. However, operators of the manufacturing tools often have difficulty with choosing tools and determining cutting conditions. While experienced workers can determine the best combination of tools and conditions for machines to efficiently produce high-quality mechanical parts, operators who lack experience often compromise efficiency and quality. In this study, the Taguchi methods were used to test and analyze the effect of tool parameters and cutting conditions on the cutting torque during the tapping process. Based on the results, the optimal combination of parameters and conditions can be determined to improve the manufacturing quality and efficiency of internal threads of mechanical parts.
