For large quantities of harmonic problems in power system, active power filter is one of the most effective ways to solve the problems. FBD harmonic current detection method is used in three-phase three-wire shunt active power filter to compensate grid harmonics. FBD current detection method is analyzed from theoretical view and compared with another method. The shunt active power filter system is modeled by application of PSCAD/EMTDC simulation software and simulated for compensation performances. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the system with the method can compensate the grid harmonics well and has advantages of simple structure, better real time and lower harmonic content.
