TURKEY, A NEWCOMER: Feasibility analysis and introduction of LW on the Turkish distribution grid - Challenges and Opportunities

The daily workflow of blue-collars from Turkish distribution industry is characterised by a high rate of event-driven intervention to frequent faults. The teams have very few or no time for pro-active maintenance or cleaning. This leads to a gradual deterioration of the technical condition of the facilities. In order to break out from this vicious cycle Turkish distribution companies have a high motivation to introduce live working. During the winter months of 2016 a feasibility study has been conducted on the LV and MV network of EEDAS ("EnerjiSA Elektrik Dagitim A.S."). In three different regions (Istanbul, Mediterranean Coast and Capital Region) several indoor and outdoor sites have been visited and evaluated by the joint teams of BSD Dresden and EEDAS. In this paper we discuss the results of this feasibility study and the prospects of a planned introduction of live work in Turkey. Thereby we classify the challenges into 3 different categories: organisational, technical and staff challenges and develop methods how to manage them in the short and medium term after introduction of LW.
