In the coaxial spark switch conduction process, the spark discharge of trigger gap will have a certain degree of pre-ionization for overvoltage gap. In order to provide some reference for the design of coaxial switch, this paper has carried on a series of tests on the influence range and intensity of this pre-ionization. In this paper, trigger characteristics of the switch under different gas pressure and gap distance (vertical distance between two switch gaps) are tested in the case of three conditions, without pre-ionization, pre-ionization of ultraviolet light and pre-ionization of spark discharge. The test results show that the pre-ionization of the ultraviolet light and the pre-ionization of the spark discharge have a certain degree of optimization of the trigger characteristics of the switch; in particular, the effect of pre-ionization of spark discharge is the best and the trigger characteristics can reach the optimal state in the range of 60mm.
