In the present research work, development of the biodiesel industry would strengthen the domestic, and particularly the rural, agricultural economy of agricultural-based countries such as India. It is biodegradable and non-toxic. But the viscosity of CSO 20 is 7.5 cSt and even with preheating to 100°C, the viscosity is 5.2 cSt higher than that of diesel (4.0 cSt). Hence, to reduce the viscosity, CSO is transesterified and blended with diesel in various proportions. In this work, experiments were conducted with blends of Cottonseed oil methyl ester with diesel in proportions of 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100% in a agricultural DI diesel engine The inherent oxygen content of the blends of higher percentage of CSOME will decrease emissions of UBHC, CO and soot while NOx emission increases. The optimum percentage of CSOME is arrived at from the trade-off between the emissions of soot and NOx. The estimation of Carbon Deposits on In-cylinder Engine Components for Diesel and CSOME 20 are calculated.
