In recent years, there have been a number of tripping events caused by the falling of boxes for bird guard in Jiangxi Power Grid. Scene investigation and laboratory test have been carried out to analyze the characteristics of fault tripping and perform thickness measurement, performance testing and TGA test analysis to a sample box for bird guard in this paper. It is found that the main reasons for the falling of boxes for bird guard are premature aging of them and unscientific fixing of them and the main reasons for premature aging is the too low initial decomposition temperature of material and too thin unsaturated resin. In addition, a simulation study is performed to transmission line tripping caused by the falling of boxes for bird guard in this paper. It is concluded that the direct cause of the tripping is the occurrence of concentrated water columns.
